Winston Chang, MS, AMFT

Hello there and welcome. On this page, I’d like to tell you a little about who I am, why I do
therapy, and what having me as a therapist might look like. I’m glad you’re here.
As a second-generation Chinese American man born and raised in San Jose, I’m familiar with
the hustle and bustle of life in Silicon Valley: an expensive housing market, pressure to
simultaneously be “on the grind” while also doing self-care, constantly feeling like there’s
something more you could be doing. One reason I love being a therapist is that I get to spend
an hour being fully present with another person. Whether celebrating wins from your past week
or processing the details of painful trauma, I am grateful for every genuine moment shared with
a client.

As a therapist, my foundational goal is to empower and support you as the unique individual you
are. Mental health looks different for each of us, and treatment is not a “one size fits all” deal.
Accordingly, I value collaboration and transparency throughout treatment. You are the sole
expert in being yourself.

My therapeutic style focuses on equipping you with evidence-based interventions while also
supporting you with the healing powers of empathy and human connection. I work to understand
the stories and experiences that have made you who you are. “Bad habits” typically have origins
in adaptive places. We take care of ourselves in the best ways we know how to at the time. As
we glean insight from the past, we also discover a renewed ability to meet present challenges
with greater wisdom, patience, and self-compassion. By reconnecting with core needs and
meeting ourselves with authentic self-love, we begin the process of healing.

Thank you for taking the time to read through all of this and whether with me, another therapist,
or whatever path your journey takes you on, I wish you health, happiness, and good fortune.
